First exhibition for local art group at Museum

The Alchemist’s Needle, a new Andover textile art group, is exhibiting for the first time in the run up to Christmas at Hampshire Cultural Trust’s Andover Museum.

From Wednesday 2nd November 2022 to Sunday 8th January 2023 The Alchemist’s Needle exhibition will be on display with many individual works and group projects for sale.

Passionate about all things textile, the eight local artists, based in Hampshire and Wiltshire, are planning to delight visitors to the Andover Museum gallery with their works. With a little alchemy – the power to change something in a mysterious or impressive way – the group transforms simple threads and fabric into stunning artworks using mixed media, machine and hand embroidery, print, quilting and felt.

The friends decided to form The Alchemist’s Needle back in 2020 with the simple aim of encouraging each other and furthering their skill base though regular meetings and workshops. Sadly, when Covid struck, they were forced to meet virtually like many groups, continuing to ‘talk textile’ via Zoom throughout lockdown and later when meetings were permitted, they were determined to plan their first exhibition.

Three of the group work full time as artists and tutors and every single member brings different levels of experience, techniques and approaches to their work. Admission to the exhibition and Andover Museum is free, and donations are welcome. Items sold in the exhibition will be collected when the exhibition has finished.
