Andover Foodbank has received a cheque for £150 following last week’s Linkedin Local networking event.

Representatives from local radio station Andover Radio presented Annie Mihell from the organisation with the donation after a gathering of local businesses at the radio station’s high street premises.

Business people from a wide range of local and independent businesses were in attendance to chat, socialise and gain useful new contacts.

Last week’s event was the second arranged by not-for-profit consultant Andrew Middleton.  The first was hosted by the team at Basepoint on East Portway in November last year.

In total, £275 has now been raised for the Trussell Trust-supported organisation because of the two inaugural Linkedin Local events.

Community Manager Jenny Lelean from Andover Foodbank says, “In fact we received a second personal donation because of the event.

“All donations of food, money and supplies help make a difference to those in need and ensure that the future of the project is secure.”

The Andover Foodbank gave out 105 family and 106 single-food boxes in January alone.

The organisation is finding pressures on their organisation greater this year as people transition onto Universal Credit.

“None of this is possible without the generosity of donors”, says Jenny.  “It means that people in the local community who are in crisis are able to access food and other essentials.”

In additional to emergency food boxes, the Andover Foodbank also supplies toiletries, nappies and laundry items.

Mr Middleton says, “One attendee told me this was the ‘perfect location at the Andover Radio offices with a wonderful mix of professional business people’.

“And, she went away with ‘another lovely new client’.  I am looking forward to the next event, supporting the Foodbank.”

LinkedIn Local isn’t a standard networking event. With no business stands, displays or presentations, the event encourages he meeting of people face to face by using the ‘Nearby app’ pioneered by the social media platform. Conversation is encouraged to explore collaboration.

Andover Radio provided a buffet for the evening in an informal and friendly atmosphere attended by local taxi companies, graphic designers and business training companies.

The Love Andover offices are in the High Street and are open for use to local businesses and not-for-profit organisations. For enquiries please email here.

Mr Middleton confirmed that the next Linkedin Local event will be at the Andover Foodbank at St John the Baptist Church on Alexandra Road on Thursday 6th June.  Click here to find out more.
