Andover Proms saved by local businesses

The much publicised Andover Proms event will go ahead after getting the backing from a growing number of local businesses.

Andover town council voted to withdraw its support for the event at a Community Engagement meeting last month and since its announcement local companies have jumped to prevent the demise of the event.

The family event at Vigo Park on Saturday September 9th is now fully managed by Richard Rowles and Andover Radio and will be an evening of live music and Union Flag-waving Britishness while supporting two fantastic local charities.

Mr Rowles says, “We’ve had an amazing response from over 20 local companies, and support from local people who love music, love the proms and love Andover. Andover Mind and the Countess of Brecknock Hospice will be over the moon to see this impressive show of support”.

Tickets are on sale now at just £10 each and are available here. The event will have TV cameras, a big screen and non-stop stage entertainment in Vigo Park.

Major supporting businesses include KJM Windows, Active Staff, Tip Top Balloons, Villagio, the Cutting Edge, New Street Dental Care and David Mellor Jewellers.

Chloe Chen from New Street Dental Care says, “We’re really pleased to support this fabulously innovative event for Andover and hope many people will attend next month for what is clearly going to be a colourful and energetic highlight in the Andover event calendar.”

The event features a range of local musicians for three hours including Lisa Faye (formerly of the Barbra Streisand Experience) and the Mighty Hump before switching live to the finale of the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall.

David Harber from Love Andover added, “Having read the town council’s financial reasons for withdrawing from the event, I shudder to think how they forecast costs using public money. It honestly beggars belief.

“I am really pleased for the charities and the people of Andover that this event will now go ahead.”
