Housebuilder David Wilson Homes has provided support for grassroots sports in Andover with a £1,000 donation towards Andover Town Youth Football Club.
The donation was made as part of the developer’s Community Fund scheme and will go towards the club’s the essential kit and equipment purchases to ensure the teams are able to progress.
Andover Town has 20 teams and over 260 young players ranging from Under 6s to Under 18s, so the donation will be supporting many young sportspeople and their training.
Stu Armstrong, Under 9s Coach at Andover Town Youth Football Club, said, “I was over the moon to hear that David Wilson Homes had chosen to support our football club.
“The Community Fund scheme is a fantastic opportunity for grassroots sports clubs and other community clubs and associations to receive financial support of projects and the day to day running of their activities.
“Thank you very much to David Wilson Homes for your support, we appreciate this vote of confidence in the approach we’re taking for our young players. Your support has encouraged us to keep going and do the best we can.”
In the midst of the pandemic, the young players were unable to partake in matches and training and they also struggled socially through lack of contact with team mates outside their school class bubbles. Now that training has resumed with an extended season, the players have noticed a significant improvement in their confidence and fitness levels.
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, added, “As a leading developer, we feel it is our responsibility to lend support to the clubs and charities which operate in the areas where we build.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute towards kit and equipment for Andover Town Youth FC and we wish the club’s players all the luck in the world for their upcoming matches in their new kit.”
