Body found in car ‘down steep bank’ off A303

Police
Witness Appeal: Hampshire Constabulary

A man’s body was found in a vehicle which ended up down a steep bank just off the westbound carriageway near Solstice Park.

A lorry driver called Wiltshire Police shortly before 3.30pm yesterday (4th June 2019) to report a vehicle down a bank.

Emergency services attended and discovered a white Vauxhall Corsa.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was sadly declared dead at the scene.

Police say his next of kin have been informed and their “thoughts are with them at this sad time.”

The westbound carriageway of the A303 was closed for more than five hours while investigation work took place. The road reopened at around 8.45pm.

PC Pete Williamson, from the Collision Investigation Unit, has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“At this stage we do not know what caused the car to leave the road, and we are not clear exactly when the collision happened, although we do believe it happened at some point today.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have any information which could help us understand what happened.

“Perhaps you saw something which at the time didn’t cause any concern, but now seems suspicious or could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting log 193 of today (Tuesday June 4th).
