Chance to quiz Minister on disability challenges

Kit Malthouse
MP: Kit Malthouse

Recently elevated to Teresa May’s cabinet, local MP Kit Malthouse has agreed to answer questions about issues affecting disabled people and their carers.

The event at Andover Guildhall next month has been organised by the Test Valley Disabilities Forum.

Mr Malthouse was given responsibility as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) in January and has agreed to keep his appointment with organisers, despite a marked increase in his parliamentary workload.

The meeting on January 26th 2018 is a chance to share concerns over how Mr Malthouse’s department and further government cutbacks may affect real life situations in the vulnerable sector.

Secretary of Test Valley Disabilities Forum (TVDF), immediate past Mayor Cllr Karen Hamilton says, “Please attend if you can, it is not easy to get opportunities like this.”

“We want people to submit their questions as soon as possible and come to the meeting later this month”.

The Forum has over 280 members from across the Borough and is a free-to-join membership group which seeks to lobby and promote independent living.

Forum chair Mo Sweeney adds, “We work with many organisations to influence Government policies which affect how we live.

“We are grateful to Mr Malthouse for taking time to attend for what is a perfect opportunity to quiz our local MP”.

TVDF also works to provide advice and support for disabled people in their local communities.

Hot topics that are expected to be discussed include:

  • Health and Support
  • Leisure
  • Environment, Transport and Housing
  • Education and Employment
  • Inclusive Communication
  • Benefits
  • Raising Awareness

Questions should be sent to Mo Sweeney or Karen Hamilton via email: Mo Sweeney: mo.sweeney@andoverradio.co.uk or Karen Hamilton: kaz@khamilton.biz

If you are disabled or a caregiver, you can join the Forum on Facebook here.
