Storm Doris has brought with her strong wind and heavy rain as Andover residents are warned to expect gusts of 60-70 mph throughout the day.
The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘Be Aware’ warning despite the strongest winds looking to be only short-lived. Damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks are likely.
Meteorologists claim that there is a very real danger of injury from flying debris.
Heavy rain will also continue today and there may be some snow over high ground as the system clears eastwards.
Some restrictions on bridges may be possible with some damage to trees and buildings being reported in and around Andover.
To most, Storm Doris will simply mean “it’s a bit windy”, as jokers on social media have suggested by posting images of overturned wheelie bins and garden chairs (photo courtesy of Twitter user @Hasselschmuck).
The ‘Be Aware’ warning is in place until approximately 8 o’clock tonight.
