Andover is in for a sizzlingly special night of cutting-edge variety on Friday as the Wolversdene Club hosts a charity burlesque night.

A riotous romp into the bizarre world of burlesque will be performed by Andover’s Lady May J, who will slink into specially designed ‘poppy suspenders’ to perform her act in support of Andover Fibromyalgia & M.E Community Group (AFMCG).

The AFMCG support network was founded in 2012 and helps those living with Fibromyalgia and ME who need to talk to others that understand the debilitating symptoms and the impact it has on daily life.

The cabaret show, ‘Boo Burlesque’, takes place this Friday, 20th October at the Hayward Suite, Wolversdene Club on Dene Road.

Lady May J will wear the innovative ‘poppy suspender belt’ which attaches to the stockings easily and quickly, replacing traditional fastening – making it easier for women to wear suspenders with stockings.

This gear and some other saucy items have been donated by a British lingerie brand Ella Vine.

This event of exotic couture will raise funds for the local group and while raising awareness of the painful and not well-understood condition Fibromyalgia as well as ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), which is often referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Both conditions can be incredibly debilitating and disabling with symptoms causing many people to be bed or house bound.

As many as 1 in 20 people live with Fibromyalgia and recently the condition was the reason behind Lady Gaga postponing her tour.

Ella Vine, the brain behind the lingerie brand and the inventor of the poppy suspenders, who lives with M.E. & Fibromyalgia herself, said, “I’m proud to be able to support this fantastic cause and very grateful to Lady May J for kindly holding the flag for all of us sufferers.

“People who live with chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia find the new fastening very helpful, which allows them to wear nice lingerie again.”

A limited number of ‘Boo Burlesque’ tickets are still available from www.nortepromotions.com and also the Pinz’N’Needlez studio at the Commercial Centre, Picket Piece.

Tickets are priced at £15 and perhaps it goes without saying that this event is for over 18’s only.
