End of an era for Andover’s Silver Surfers

This month Andover Neighbourcare have announced that they have had to make the tough decision to close their very successful computer training for the elderly due to a lack of funding.

Neigbourcare have been serving Andover’s elderly for 8 years. Teaching them basic computer skills so they can access the fast pasted virtual world.

In the announcement they said “This service was always self-funded by the local community with donations and fundraising. Added to this our computers are reaching the end of their working life.

“We would like to thank all members and volunteers who have used and helped us in the past. We have had many happy hours of fun and laughter which we will miss.”

One service user said “We are very sorry silver surfers is closing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there and found it very educational and helpful. It really is a shame and a great loss to the community, especially the elderly, many of whom like me, were brought up with steam trains and trolly buses, not all this modern technology.”

If you need help with your computer, you can contact Unity Andover Telephone 0330 4004 116. They are open Monday to Saturday 9.00 to 1600.

You can also access computer free of charge from Andover Library if you are a card holder.
