Harmonious Homecoming: Andover Ladies Choir’s Triumphant ‘Sing A Song Of Summer’ Concert at The Lights!

The 40 women of Andover Ladies Choir are filled with excitement and anticipation, as their concert ‘Sing A Song Of Summer’ is happening on 7th July at The Lights Andover.

Their Founder and Music Director Clare Oliver explained, “It’s our first time back at the wonderful venue The Lights since 2019- due to obvious reasons- and we can’t wait”

Since the choir’s last concert there they had to undertake some extraordinary ways of staying connected and continuing to thrive during lockdowns and Covid rules.

A choir member said “From that first lockdown to being able to sing together again, we progressed from Zoom rehearsals, to singing outdoors spaced apart in a car park, to being indoors wearing special “singing-masks” aka “duckface” bought from America (we were featured on ITN for that), to singing inside 1 metre apart with full room ventilation! Clare was endlessly inventive, and kept the choir going!”

Now finally-after performing at the hugely successful Andover Christmas Lights switch-on, then winning trophies and much praise for their singing and their accompanist Anna Mullens’ playing at the recent MidSomerset Festival- Andover Ladies Choir is back with a big summer concert on July 7th.

Clare said “We have some fantastic new repertoire as well as revisiting some of our first pieces from when I started the choir in 2017. It’s a super selection of songs from film to folk, from showtunes to sacred, from Ave Maria to Abba. You’ll even hear a famous Spice Girls song done in a completely different way! There will be something for everyone, and we are delighted that the new Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley will be attending.”

The choir, which rehearses at Thruxton Memorial Hall, is full -and even has a waiting list.

The concert is being sponsored by Parker Bullen, KJM Windows and Conservatories, and Andover Mini Storage.

Tickets for the concert, at 7:30pm on Friday 7th July, are available from The Lights box office at 01264 368368 or online here
