As young people across Hampshire celebrate achieving A Level results, technical qualifications, and apprenticeships, Hampshire County Council is commending them on their success – particularly in the face of challenges caused by COVID-19 over the last 18 months.
Councillor Roz Chadd from Hampshire County Council said, “Post-16 students have shown tremendous resilience, continuing to work hard throughout the pandemic and multiple disruptions to their courses. I would like to congratulate them all on their dedication and hard work. I also wish to extend my gratitude to the tutors and employers who have supported these young people through their studies and apprenticeships, as well as the families and carers for the increased support they must have given to these individuals during these unprecedented times.”
Determining final A Level results and securing technical qualifications is important for young people to be able to move on to higher education, apprenticeships, and other work placed training opportunities. Hampshire has one of the highest performing post 16 sectors in the country, supporting more young people every year to take that important first step towards a successful future career.
Cllr Chadd, Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, added, “On behalf of the County Council, I wish Hampshire’s post-16 students the greatest success as they take their next steps, whether they are leaving college to take up a place at university, starting an apprenticeship, or moving into other paid employment.”
Any young person who needs help or advice about their next options, having received their results, can speak to their college or school’s Careers Advisor or visit the County Council’s Your Future website, which has information and advice for an extensive range of careers.
On and shortly after results day (10 August), Hampshire Futures – the County Council’s careers advice service for young people – will be operating a help phone line on 03707 796122 and a web chat service on the Hampshire Futures Careers and Information Service website. These support services will be available between 9am and 4pm on 10 August and on 12-13 August. Alternatively, students can email the Hampshire Futures team at careers.service@hants.gov.uk.
Students who may be feeling uncertain, anxious or stressed about the future as they move on to university, employment or other training can also seek support from Young Minds, who will help to encourage them to look after their mental health and identify when to ask for help. Additional mental health and wellbeing resources for young people, including local support services and free message services, can be found on the Mental Wellbeing Hampshire website.
