Local Radio Day 2021

Local Radio Day 2021 David Harber and Dom Chambers

Andover Radio is celebrating Local Radio Day today.

The annual event is a celebration of the work that local radio stations have in their communities.

The event is run by Andover Radio along with Somer Valley FM in Somerset and involves almost 250 UK radio stations including the BBC local radio network.

This year’s theme is ’Love Your Place’, wherever that may be – wherever you feel you belong – working in your local business, being with family, out in nature, or maybe playing sports

Whatever place you love, we want to know about it.

You can share and explain which ‘place’ you love on our Facebook page, or create your own post.  Please use the hashtag #LocalRadioDay.

Throughout the day, Andover Radio is catching up with listeners, local businesses and community organisations so we can learn why they love their place.

Co-organiser David Harber says, “We want to thank everyone who listens to our station and supports us.  Recent months have shown the importance of being connected with your local area.”

During the lockdown periods, Andover Radio’s measurable online listening figures almost quadrupled, with almost half of Andover listening on smart speakers and digital devices.

“It was listeners’ need for quick and free access to structured and non-scaremongering information that led us to increase our local news output and launch the Love Andover Observer newspaper.

“Today, we’re pleased to link-up with almost 250 participating stations in locations across the UK, but the place we love is right here in Andover.  It is a growing town with huge opportunity ahead.”

Special thanks is given to Paul Blundell from RadioJingles24 who spent hours in the studio, creating around 500 separate pieces of audio for participating radio stations.
