Andover Events Local Sport

Massive support for charity event this Sunday

The organiser of a sporting family fun day this weekend says he’s “super excited” about the way the community have come together to support this first event.

Josh Abraham is heading up the event at Picket Twenty Sports Ground with friends Lee Cogan and Ash Duke ‘in memory of two pillars of the Andover community’.

Josh says, “We are super excited to deliver something that nobody has done before in the community.

“Our objective is to tie sport in with psychology – just like the FA have done previously. But we have expanded to have something for everyone including the children.”

The event is in memory of Josh’s best friend talented local footballer Nicholas Dadds and popular local man Phil Cockcroft.

The event this Sunday is between 10.00am and 5.00pm. Local radio station 95.9FM Andover Radio will be there, broadcasting live.

The event will raise money for Papyrus Suicide Prevention and local hospice, The Countess of Brecknock.

Josh told Love Andover, “Phil was a big influence in Andover, whilst supporting local football teams. So this is going to be a special day and we have a target of £5,000 to raise. The event features sixteen teams already registered with the 11-a-side memorial clash between the Nick Dadds 11 and Phil Cockcroft 11.

Phil was a popular local landlord who died suddenly in March this year. He was most recently the landlord of The George in St Mary Bourne, but spent many years at the Southampton Arms in Andover.

The organisers have arrange a massive amount of raffle prizes, donated by local companies, including Finkley Down Farm tickets, vouchers from Bombay Saphire and a hamper from Twinings.

A full, and incomplete list of raffle prizes on the day are below.

Local good cause champion, best-selling author and extreme adventurer, former soldier Jordan Wylie will be there to share some special thoughts and hand out prizes on the day.

Well-known and inspirational ‘living legend’, Chelsea Pensioner, Mr Fred Abraham is also hoped to make an appearance in his ‘Scarlets’ at the charity event on Sunday.

There will also be a BBQ, an outdoor DJ, drinks and refreshments. Inflatable Darts and other kids’ activities will be on the field over the course of the day.
