Local charity Unity with North West Hampshire’s member of youth parliament Dmitrijs Meiksans have announced the second set of winners for the Test Valley COVID-19 Unsung Heroes Award.
The awards aim to recognise and highlight the amazing people that have gone above and beyond to assist their local communities throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
This week, the shortlisting panel voted to select Josh Douch from Andover and Greg and Hilary Alexander from Nursling.
One nominator said about Josh, “Josh has given his time evenings and weekends to refurbish and repair laptops for children that can’t access home learning. He has done this throughout the whole year one weekend he repaired 50 laptops for a young man of 20, I think this is a remarkable achievement. We are very proud of him.”
Another nominator told us, “This guy has been amazing, supporting local families with devices for their children to be able to get onto their online lessons. He spent lots of time setting up laptops for kids and dropping them off to them as quickly as possible so they didn’t miss out on any learning. Very generous!”
Nursling’s Greg and Hilary Alexander also received the award, nominations said, “Last year Greg and Hilary helped the elderly with shopping and phone calls. He delivered my step fathers papers daily on his bike as he was shielding. This made a massive difference. Hilary made scrub bags and masks which I delivered to local doctors and nurses at the hospital. They offered endless support to those needing a helping hand without question. They selflessly put others first. Greg and Hilary have been an inspiration in their generosity with time. Helping people in their community they didn’t know. They still pick up prescriptions and shop for the vulnerable and elderly. They touched the hearts of many.”
Dmitrijs Meiksans, the organiser of the awards scheme, said, “We are extremely proud to present Josh, Greg and Hilary with our unsung heroes award – they have all truly demonstrated the true meaning of community resilience.”
