Andover Radio says Thank you #Volunteersweek2020

#Volunteers week, our chance to say, a heart warmed thank you to all our amazing volunteers who wholly make up Andover Radio & Love Andover, for all your hard work and support. We couldn’t provide the services we do for Andover without you. Each and every one of our volunteers help us to keep running everyday, the dedication, passion and love you all have for our town is phenomenal.

Over the past few months COVID-19 has meant that we have had to close our studios and set up working from home, this for some has come with challenges yet every single volunteer, whether it be writing articles, remotely recording shows, supporting businesses or just being there as a comforting ear has been amazing and we couldn’t of done it without you.

Carole, a dedicated volunteer said,

Volunteering at Love Andover has given me so much pleasure. I’ve met lots of new people who have become good friends and it has given me a much needed confidence boost. Andover is being put on the map thanks to the radio station and I am very proud to be playing a very small part in that.

Carole, we thank you for always being there for everyone, you are always there spreading love and encouragement to everyone. Carole starting off sharing poetry and went onto present the history quizzes on-air, since lockdown Carole has thrown herself into whatever task needs doing, despite having to self isolate.

Since joining Andover Radio 2 and a bit years ago, I’ve met some amazing people. I’ve also learned skills like how to broadcast and present on radio, skills that I never knew I could do. I’ve learned about audio and how crossfade, which has proven very useful for my own business.
It’s helped me write and present too, which has helped with my confidence, when speaking in public.
It’s great being part of a team that all want the very best for each other and for the town of Andover
.”

Adam always offers his support to Andover Radio and why because he cares about helping people, Adam we thank you for always being there with a smile on your face.

Kevin Ridgon, Love Andover IT Guru said

It’s kept my thoughts away from dark things and used my skills that were laying dormant. I have been given support when needed and been able to return it to some. Love Andover has connected me to some of the most genuine, kind and caring people I could ever asked to meet.”

Kevin offers hours of IT support to ensure a smooth running of Love Andover, without Kevin’s passion and dedication we would struggle to provide such a seamless website. Kevin we thank you.

I’ve never really been involved in a volunteer organisation like this before. It took a while to get my head around the difference between having staff and having people who wanted to give their time up to basically help others. I like passionate, reliable, enthusiastic and ‘real’ people and Love Andover is full of people like that. It still surprises me how much people are willing to ‘give’ in terms of skill, time, assistance and even emotion. I love this team of people; each with their own beautiful individual personas. If I weren’t for Love Andover, I don’t think I would have met most of the genuinely lovely people here. I get a sense of pride from people thanks to volunteering.

People volunteer for all sorts of reasons, it could be for their own confidence and self esteem, learning a new skill, giving something back, a hobby, whatever the reason we thank you, every single one of you, you are Love Andover.

Over the past year Love Andover have been involved in over 10 events and again everyone involved has given up their time to dedicate to Andover.

Here is a reminder of some of the events over the 2019/2020;

Armed forces Day

Festival of Motoring

Weyhill beer festival

Andover Cycling event

We have also been involved in the Andover Golf club Fireworks as well as the Rookwood school fireworks, Christmas Lights switch on, The Sensory Grotto set up by the Disability forum and hosted by Andover and District Mencap and of course the Love Bus.

We are always looking to expand and give Andover as much as we possibly can, if this sounds like something you may like to be involve in and you can;-

  • Spare us a little time? – just a few hours a week or even a day now and then
  • Want to be a part of a very special team making a difference to Andover?
  • Want to learn a new skill or have a skill to share?
