Poetry rocks for Andover charity

Andover Rocks received a boost after a donation from Andover Radio was presented from the poetry book sales.

Marie Ponting, Andover Rocks founder was presented with the cheque at the Andover Radio studios by Poet in residence, Daniel Hooks. The amount was for £122, which was raised from sales of the Andover Poetry Anthology book. The book was the brainchild of Daniel who wanted to express the positivity of Andover through poetry. The process began 2020 with the idea to not only publish a poetry book about Andover but also using the monies raised to donate to local charity Andover Rocks.

Andover Rocks is a charity that supports people with mental health through the invention of music and arts. This is a special charity to Daniel who said “Andover Rocks help people maintain their mental health through a variety of workshops and interventions throughout the year. Andover Rocks has given me a platform to perform my own poetry but also opened me up to more expressive ways through music and arts to help with my own mental health.”

In 2020 Daniel approached Andover Radio with the idea of producing a book, which progressed into Daniel gathering poems from poets for the book. With a huge influx, Daniel knew he had some brilliant poems to publish. Daniel brought poets from Andover together to create a brilliant book. The book was published in 2021 and has so far raised £122 for Andover Rocks.

Marie Ponting told us “Daniel has done such a great job with this and through his hard work and dedication to this, he has raised much needed funds for us. The money that he has raised can help pay for a therapy session which can go a long way in helping someone”.

The Andover Rocks festival is back again this year bigger and better than ever this April the 1st through to the 3rd. For more information and the workshops that are held throughout the year visit the Andover Rocks website.
