Sainsburys and Asda discuss merger

Supermarket giants Sainsbury’s and Asda are in discussions about a possible merger.

According to the BBC website talks are in an advanced stage and would put the new group at 2,800 stores, slightly ahead of current leader Tesco.

If the merger went ahead, the two brands – he second and third largest supermarkets in the UK – are expected to be retained.

Andover currently has two Sainsbury’s stores at Bridge Street and Shepherds Spring Lane with Asda just the one in Anton Mill Road.
