This year as part of the ongoing June Volunteers Week celebration, Unity Volunteering attracted sponsorship from Tesco to run a Big Garden Spruce Up event.
This activity was supported not only by Simply Health but also by a number of keen volunteers who worked most of the day helping to clear and tidy the garden of an elderly gentleman who is no longer able to manage the garden for himself.
Throughout one of the warmest days, several kind hearted volunteers and two staff members, worked hard to bring the garden back to its former glory.
Frank, who built his property by hand over 50 years ago, was delighted with the outcome of the day’s labour. His name had been put forward for the spruce up by one of the Cardea Home Support team who also pitched in and helped.
Christianne Ireland, Unity’s Volunteer Centre Manager said “Thanks must go to Frank for providing plenty of cups of tea, also to Tesco who kindly sponsored the event and to the volunteers who gave their time up and worked so very hard in the hot sun to make the garden look lovely.
“It has been a roaring success and we will certainly consider doing something similar in the future.”
