As reported by Andover Radio yesterday, the A&B Cars Winchester Street office in Andover has been closed.
Alpha Cars in Andover have been served with a Notice to “Immediately cease operating as an unlicensed private hire vehicle operator within the controlled district of Test Valley”.
A council spokesperson has now said, “When making licensing decisions, the council’s primary duty is to protect the public.
“No person must operate a vehicle as a private hire vehicle without a current licence. Alpha Cars does not hold an Operators Licence within Test Valley.
“Where the council believes that operation is taking place without a licence we will take steps to ensure that unlicensed operation ceases in order to protect the travelling public which is what we have done on this occasion.
“We are unable to comment further at this time to avoid prejudicing any further action the council may have to take.”
We understand that Andover Cars based on The Avenue area also affected.
