600 person milestone for local volunteering

Despite our various lockdown situations, local charity Unity’s plea for volunteer assistance to help in the Andover and Romsey areas has shown exceptional results.

Andover, Romsey and North Baddesley Primary Care Network’s Covid Vaccination programme is paying dividends.  Individuals from up and down the length and breadth of Test Valley have offered their services and registered as volunteers.

This week, the programme in both towns which started in earnest and on Thursday 7th January, means that local CVS (community and voluntary service) Unity can announce that they have now formally recruited their 600th Volunteer.

To be precise, 633 people have been registered – of which 196 are based in the Romsey area – and a whopping 437 are from Andover and surrounding areas.

Around 180 have actively assisted in their programme which had a brief start just before Christmas.

Christianne Ireland, an Andover Radio Lockdown Legend and Voluntary Sector Support Manager for Unity said, “We have been absolutely astounded by the volunteer response to helping support this vital programme.  We have been so impressed with people’s enthusiasm to get the job done.  There is nothing better than the volunteer to step up when needed even at an hours’ notice”

Unity CEO Terry Bishop is a powerhouse of getting things done for community benefit, she told us, “This army of Test Valley volunteers are providing essential assistance and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to work with the Primary Care Networks, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Clinicians and the staff as we are all working together to get this important job done.  Our thanks go out to them all.”

This recruitment drive is ongoing as at present there is no known end date.  If you are interested in helping please register through the link here:  https://bit.ly/3s5hxZI
