Picket Twenty Community Centre have responded to the local plea asking for laptops for children, to be able to access their online learning that schools are providing.
Mike Shears is the chairman of Picket Twenty Community Association, he told Andover Radio, “The other trustees and I of the Picket Twenty Community Association have seen several messages asking about where parents could get laptops to help their children access their schools online learning. During the first lockdown we used our resources and experience to make PPE, as there was a shortage at the time. This time there wasn’t the need for these items, but we realised that we could help in another way. I have over 30 years of experience in IT and so we thought let’s ask to see if members of our community had any old laptops which they no longer needed, which could be reconditioned to help children to get online and continue their education. So, we put out a request to ask people to donate their old laptops and we have been overwhelmed by the response. There are so many generous people out there willing to help.”
On the Picket Twenty Community Facebook page, they say, “I would like to say thank you to everyone who has offered to donate one. It goes to show what an amazing community we have. Our children need help during these difficult times and any support we can offer I’m sure will go a long way. Thank you. “
They are opening the Picket Twenty Community Centre for donations Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 6 pm and 7 pm, during the lockdown. They will also open on Sunday between 2pm and 3pm. The laptops will be completely cleared of any existing data and will be set up ready for use.
