The Abbots Mitre at Chilbolton is set to close next month (June) due to a decision made by the owners, Enterprise Inns – but against the current landlord’s wishes.
According to the website setup to fight the closure there are doubts as to the reasons behind the closure with suspicion that Enterprise Inns want to re-develop this land into housing to maximise their short-term profits.
Residents and clients of the pub have been given various ideas to try and help save it as well as landlord Tom and his staff.
Tom has offered to continue running the pub on a weekly basis until a new tenant can be found however Enterprise have refused the offer and told him that if one can not be found, the pub will close and be boarded-up on 9th June.
The Enterprise Inns website states “Our pubs are at the heart of the local business and community life” – it looks like the drinkers and residents of Chilbolton may not agree with that.
