Bumper medals haul for Andover Swimming & Water Polo Club

Basingstoke was host to a summer sizzler swimming competition over the jubilee weekend.

The event had swimmers from clubs including Hart, Swindon, Winchester, Chichester and Woking to name a few.

Summer Marvin swam brilliantly achieving 2 first places in the 50m and 100m backstroke and a third place for the 200m backstroke. Andover’s Lilly Hardy took the gold in the 50m Front Crawl which saw all the swimmers in the event swim with speed and enthusiasm.

Katey Dallolio who recently swam for the club at National level, took to the blocks for a speedy 50m Front Crawl and came away with a silver medal.

Oscar Gailer took to the pool on day two of the competition taking part in the 100m front crawl and came away with a second place medal, knocking a whopping 6 seconds off his time from the last time he raced. When asked how he felt about the event he said, “The event was fun as everyone was so supportive and said his hard work at training has improved his time in the pool.”

The youngest swimmers to take part over the weekend were 11 years old and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

In total, Andover Swimming and Water Polo Club were represented by 29 swimmers and came away with 11 medals in total.

The club is going from strength to strength at competitions, with the coaching squad coming away feeling proud of the results that are coming in. Team Manager Matt Hardy said, “It was such a great event and everyone was so supportive of each other. There are some things we need to take away and work on at training, but the club is going from strength to strength.”

There are a few more meets scheduled to take place before the summer break and the squad can’t wait to see what they can achieve at these next events.
