On Saturday 21st May football excitement filled the air at St Mary’s Stadium, home of Premier League Club Southampton, as two Andover New Street Youth teams played in the junior tournament
The teams got to enjoy time at the stadium, walk out of the players tunnel and enjoy a tour of the changing rooms as well as play in the tournament on the main stadium pitch, set up with 4 pitches.
Game 1 started slow due to not being able to warm up, but then started to get into the groove with a goal by Jake. Some great work and team play!
Game 2 started and the team were on fire with an early goal from Freddie. It was a really strong game for the team, a fantastic performance throughout.
Game 3 saw some exceptional performance as the boys played some outstanding football. They passed and pressed the opposition, with 2 quick fire goals from Lenny who showed some outstanding foot work dazzling the defenders on both goals.
Game 4 started very well from the off and it quickly went end to end with lots of scoring chances. The boys dug in deep and saw Lenny score again. A strong performance throughout.
Quarter final time and the boys started on fire in this game, they pressed and passed them off the park. Some great foot work from Alfie who scored the first goal, but the team got too comfortable, so it was time to dust themselves down which saw a truly great left foot strike from Archie.
Each boy fully deserved the medals and it was an experience they will never forget.
‘I could not be any more proud of the boys they all got a massive pat on the back from me. A great finish for an excellent season.’ said Gavin Davies ANS U9’s Youths
The St Mary’s tournament was an amazing experience for our U10’s team.
We scored some great goals including a superb individual effort from Fredy who rode 2 hard challenges and hit top bins from outside the area and a 30 plus free kick from Archie.
The semi final match was against a very good pezza soccer school team, but the boys played some amazing football.
The final was a very tight game, but the boys put in an excellent performance throughout.
‘The whole experience, including the changing room tour and walking out through the tunnel with each player being introduced was a special moment for us all.’ said Martyn Ford ANS U10’s Youths
