“Let’s Dance” says Jason Briley. You might know him better as the ‘dancing chicken’ on Springfield Close.
His original video has gone viral as he encourages streets in Andover to dance to “just one tune” every day at 11:00am.
The personal trainer started a growing trend in Andover on Friday with ‘It’s Not Unusual’ by Tom Jones played at full volume in Springfield Close. Residents – at an appropriately safe distance – joined in the fun and enjoyed three and a half minutes of joy and exercise.
Mandy O’Neill hosted the frantic dancing in River Way today and Stewart Burrows AKA Bananaman got into the spirit on Springfield Close. Residents of Highlands Road were also part of the effort to raise spirits when we all could do with a smile.
Jason from Superfit Boot Camp engineered the idea of getting people together, dancing to same song every day at the same time. It’s arranged on the strict understanding the people adhere to government advice on social distancing.
So that everyone can participate, every morning at 11:00am local radio station 95.9FM Andover Radio will play Jason’s ‘song of the day’.
Andover Radio presenter Dave Woollatt says, “Tomorrow, just tune your car radio to 95.9FM and turn the volume up just before 11:00am. We’ve learnt that the louder the music, the better the dancing.
“I love the sense of community spirit in Andover and can’t wait to see the videos on social media of your street taking part”.
Today, people from all over Andover and some in Winchester and Amesbury were dancing to Lulu’s ‘Shout’. Each day there will be a different song.
Vikki Bishop from Highlands Road is making sure older residents know about the daily activity. She is distributing flyers to people and says, “I’m keen to spread the joy in our road and the OAP’s dancing with the young ones.” Vikki wants to make sure older people understand what’s happening – and take part – “before we blast music out.
“I would like the whole road joining in.”
