We are pleased to announce that we are inviting submissions for our latest publication.
Love Andover and Andover Radio’s Poet’s Corner are proud to present an opportunity to be published in a new book called “Poems of Andover”.
The book is an anthology of poetry about our town and this invitation is open to anyone or any age.
Book author Dan Hooks, Andover Radio’s resident poet laureate says, “Poems can be up to 30 lines. We would really like you to send a connected image as well. A photo or a piece of art on your subject matter would also be included in the book.
“There’s loads of creative talent around Andover and we want to help people get their work in print. Before Christmas we had 200 submission for our Christmas poetry competition which was open to young people in and around Andover. For this project, we hope that we can encourage more people to get creative and get into print.
Don’t worry if you can’t provide artwork or a photo it’s not essential.
Submissions are limited to 3 poems per person.
“Ideally we would prefer to have submissions from people who have a local connection to Andover”, adds Dan.
If you are looking for inspiration you could write about Andover’s past, present or future, about famous past residents or your fond memories of the past or exciting future plans you have.
All book sales will be going to local charities. The charitable beneficiaries have yet to be announced.

MY GRANDAD’S STORY OF THE WHITE HART
At midnight my Grandad used to say to my Mum,
hold onto this story don’t be glum.
The White Hart deer on top the pub in Andover will come alive,
and then take a drink from the River Anton to survive.
From The White Hart deer who takes a drink in the River Anton,
to the ones we tell to our children about mysterious stories and phantoms.
But do not forget that a story is in us all,
and bed time stories never fall
on deaf ears
children love to hear
ones they’ve heard many a time
even delivered in rhyme.
