New hair salon, ‘Willow and Rose Hair Lounge’ has scooped a £1,200 Independent Retailer Grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
Emily Monteith, who was renting a chair at a salon in Andover, decided to branch out on her own and has taken up a premises at 8 Waverley Buildings, Waterloo Court, just off the High Street in Andover. Emily now rents out four chairs in her salon to other hairdressers in the local area.
Emily said “Waterloo Court is the perfect location for my new hair lounge as it has a regular footfall, being in the town centre. I am really pleased to be awarded the grant to help get my business up and running”.
Recipients of the £1,200 grant receive £600 after three months of trading and a further £600 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month.
Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants, and cafes.
Councillor Debbie Cattell, who recently presented the cheque to Emily, said: “The grant schemes are a great opportunity for those wishing to set up new businesses in Test Valley. I am delighted that Emily has been successful in her grant application and wish her every success.”
These funds have become available to the community as a consequence of the council’s prudent investments, financial management and the use of the New Homes Bonus.
