Countdown to Hampshire arts festival

From a garden boogie, to live poetry, to being transported on a sensory exploration of nature’s daily spectacle – the All in the Mind Festival aims to shine a light on mental health in a thought-provoking but fun way.

The countdown is on to the Hampshire festival, which this year will take place online on Saturday 12 September. The digital doors will open at 10:30am with the first performances at 11:00am.

The event will be held on a bespoke streaming platform, which can show multiple live acts at the same time, allowing visitors to go from stage to stage in real time, just like they would at a live event. More than 40 exciting acts from around the UK will take part – many of them giving live performances throughout the day.

All in the Mind, which usually takes place in Basingstoke, Hampshire, aims to shine a light on mental health and encourage performers and artists to explore mental health themes and break the stigma that still surrounds many aspects of mental health and personal wellbeing.

The festival was started by Leigh Johnstone, from Bursledon near Southampton, and his theatre company, Fluid Motion, five years ago.

He said: “We are incredibly excited the Festival is almost here, and we cannot wait for people to see what we have in store. The line-up is full of extremely talented people, packed across one fantastic day, who will provide fun, engaging and thought-provoking performances. There really will be something for everyone.

“This year has been like no other, but we were determined the show must go on in some form and I am very pleased with the digital way we will be able to deliver the performances. We hope that it will be an immersive experience for everyone.”

This year’s line-up includes performances exploring topics such as psychosis, loneliness, depression and mindfulness. Some of the material has been written during and inspired by the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. Many of the performances will be suitable for younger audiences.

All in the Mind takes place on Saturday 12 September. People can register for tickets on http://www.aitmfestival.com/ Ticketholders will receive a festival brochure in the lead up to the festival.
