LOOK OUT FOR DEHYDRATION

Daisy First Aid Andover shares with us some important information on keeping dehydrated

This week’s weather is set to be high again, and if your children are like mine they will live in the garden all week! Reminding them to drink when they are in full play can be a challenge. Giving food high in water helps such as watermelon and of course ice lollies!

A dehydrated child can appear to be naughty/frustrated on first glance.

Symptoms of dehydration in children include:

  • Feeling thirsty
  • Dark yellow and strong smelling wee
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
  • Feeling tired or irritable
  • Dry mouth, lips and eyes
  • Weeing little, and fewer than 4 times a day – or nappies drier than normal

You child may not be able to explain or understand how they are feeling and it can come across as naughtiness or frustration.

If your child shows any dehydration symptoms. Give regular small sips and allow them to gradually drink more if they can.

You should drink enough during the day so that your pee is a pale clear. And this information all applies to you too.
