There will be a special Weyhill Car Boot Sale this Sunday.
The popular local event will be on for one special day (Sunday 6th October) where funds raised will be given to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice.
Brothers Graham and Nigel North have run the event for three years and seen the weekly summer event grow in size. “Hundreds of cars and thousands of buyers”, says Graham North. “We’re really lucky that more and more people come and support this event each week”.
Before they shut for the winter and reopen in March, the brothers have committed to giving 100 per cent of Sunday’s income to the incredible work of the Charlton Road hospice.
Their father John was admitted to the hospice some years back.
“Dad was in the hospice”, says Graham. “They really looked after him and we wanted to give something back. I am sure 50% of people know someone who has been supported by their care. The other fifty percent will, in the future”.
“Last year we gave 50p per boot to the hospice, this year, they deserve the whole lot”.
The Countess of Brecknock is a palliative care unit with the Andover War Memorial Hospital with a multi-disciplinary team of specialist nurses, doctors and therapists.
Work on a new extension to the hospice started in September after a £4.2million fundraising appeal.
On the reasons why the brothers started the popular car boot sale, Mr North said, “We are arable farmers and things are very tough. We had to diversify and find other uses for the land.
“We are lucky with the space we have, there are two areas – one for the car boot and one for parking”.
The event organisers are well-known for their vehicles which advertise the events. There was uproar recently when their Robin Reliant, decorated in the colours of Trotters Independent Traders from the TV show ‘Only Fools and Horses’ was vandalised and their mannequin of Delboy stolen.
“Kids love our Mr Bean mini”, added Graham. “We like to have a bit of fun and weather permitting we are really looking forward to providing the Countess of Brecknock Hospice a nice cheque after Sunday’s boot sale”.
Entry is £6.50 per car or small van with up to 100 ‘boots’ anticipated on Sunday (weather permitting). Sellers are asked to arrive from 8am.
