Councillor Karen Hamilton is organising a photo opportunity and survey tonight outside The Guildhall at 6:00pm for councillors and residents involved in rejuvenating the town – and people with ideas to help.
The event will be just before the Andover Town Council Annual Meeting of Electors so should be well supported by councillors and so also an opportunity for residents to attend the meeting afterwards.
Councillor Hamilton said:
I am organising this event myself and not on behalf of TVBC or the TC
On a weekly basis I often hear residents say “us and them and the Coucillors never listen”. I aim to change that perception. My experience is that I regularly see councillors out supporting their residents on a wide range of matters. However most of this is done on an individual basis so the wider population rarely sees the role that Councillors play in resolving local issues. (Not a week goes by where I am dealing with housing/parking, planning and hedges issues, this is just a few named).
I am supporting the Borough Council’s Andover Summit initiative which has seen five working groups taking forward priorities to rejuvenate the town. I am sending an invitation for all Andover residents who want to engage or get involved to offer ideas for the town to join me in front of the Guildhall in the High Street on Thursday 23rd May at 6pm. The event will include a photo and mini survey to be used to promote the passion of local people willing to give up their time to develop our town. The more people who get involved, the more chance of creating fantastic ideas. Many times I have spoken to people who have a lot to say about our town, but don’t want to get involved to make a difference. My request to you is come and join me and make that difference.
