We are more than girls who play football, we are VIXENS!!!!!!

On Sunday night you could hear the Andover New Street Vixens cheering at the phenomenal win by the Lionesses in the Euro 2022 Final.

Many of the girls gathered at the Andover New Street club house to cheer the Lionesses along together, whilst others cheered along at home with flags flying and each girl buzzing with excitement and dressed for the occasion.

Ahead of the match the Vixens took to their Facebook page to share their excitement, how they would be cheering on the Lionesses and how they have been inspired but the England Team over the tournament.

‘U9’s Vixen Grace is inspired by Alex Greenwood because she is a great tackler and loves Ellen White because she is an aggressive attacker!!’

‘U11’s Ruby couldn’t wait to watch the Lionesses in action again, especially her favourite Chelsea women Fran Kirby and Millie Bright’

U8’s Poppy is about to start her Vixen journey in September ‘Poppy said Williamson is amazing at her shots, her tackles and passes.  She is really confident!

‘U10’s Savannah couldn’t wait to watch the ladies in the Final. She loves Earps and Bright….solid at the back’

‘U10’s Freya has been inspired by Beth Mead because she has blonde hair, also wears No.7 and runs a lot! Freya hopes to be able to do as many tricks and score as many goals next year like Beth.’

‘U13’s Ella & Flo and U6’s Ava have enjoyed watching all the matches and couldn’t wait for the final!!  They made this flag along with biscuits and flags for cakes! Mary Earp is Ella’s new idol, and we can’t think of a better idol!’

Andover New Street Vixens have just celebrated their first year as one of Andover’s biggest success stories for girls’ football and they see this set to continue because if the excitement and inspiration of the Women’s Euros 2022 wasn’t enough, the showstopping WIN from England’s Lionesses is really inspiring a new generation of girls, just like the Vixens to dream big!

If you, or someone you know has been inspired to take their first steps into football contact us via www.ansyfc.org or you can find them on Facebook ‘Andover New Street Vixens’.  The club believe that the sky’s the limit.  When the season starts in September they will have expanded again, to twelve teams.  And as ever, they will continue to never turn a girl away who’d like to see if she wanted to become a Vixen.  They live by the mantra that has got us this far.   We are more than girls who play football, we are VIXENS!!!!!!

Each session is covered by New Street Youth FA qualified coaches, with the support of our older players the amazing Andover New Street U16 girls (or Super-Vixens as we like to call them!) who still help to coach the Under 5 and Under 6 Vixen Cubs. Amazingly a large number of the Super Vixens have already studied and passed their FA Playmaker qualification, the first step on the coaching qualification ladder.
