WORD: Making sustainability more affordable

Love and Joy Home Weyhill Andover

This Sunday evening from 7:00pm, there’s another chance to hear Ben Morris talk to Sarah Lovejoy about her enterprise at the historic Fairground Craft Centre.

‘Love and Joy Home’ is an Andover business with a clear commitment in helping you achieve a more holistic or zero-waste lifestyle.

The business was set-up two years ago to make an ethical lifestyle affordable and convenient.

A former goth, Sarah says, “I’ve always had an interest in environmental issues. The geeky teenager who would hunt down a particular make-up range that wasn’t tested on animals – back when I was a teen there weren’t many available).

“I studied aromatherapy and massage in my twenties and the birth of my children was the real eye opener, and when I became aware of the amount of bleach and plastic commonly found in products.”

Sarah believes that taking responsibility to provide a safe and clean environment for generations to come does not need to ‘cost the earth’ but does require a bit of dedication and a willingness to change.

“I had this mad idea after talking to friends who were really supportive. I started to look for premises and two years ago we set up with the idea that people could cut down on plastic packaging while topping up on cleaning and beauty products without having to buy things in plastic packaging.

“The idea was that you could bring in your old bottles, tubs and containers and packaging and we would simply top it up for you, however much you need, without having to buy items with yet more plastic packaging.

“I have always been aware of environmentalism; it used to drive my parents mad when I was a teenager. So it’s been something I’ve always been aware of – and passionate about.”

Sarah’s business helps the challenge we face in how to make an ethical lifestyle affordable and convenient. Her store sells products for the bathroom and kitchen with ‘refillable pantry goods’.

Open Tuesday to Saturday at Unit 9, The Fairground Craft Centre in Weyhill, you can visit Sarah’s website here: love-joy-home.co.uk.

Sarah will feature on The Word with Ben Morris this Sunday at 6:00pm on 95.9FM Andover Radio.
