We have gazed at the lives we used to lead
and imagined our better selves
would correct the mistakes of the past.
We have cast aspersions
been caught in widening diversions.
You are my mum
and that is not just a title
you have brought me through the frightful passages of life
into better days that are now reasonably carefree.
But let us not forget the days when we laughed and cried together
the ties between mother and child which can’t be severed
if we could tell the truth as sometimes we do
we would answer life it’s mysteries and clues
for you were with me at my start
I hope I will be there for you when
you need me as a son
for all of life is relationships
and we have a good one
even if we have come through the struggles
of my mental health, it’s battles and wars.
