John Hanson Community School and Winton Community Academy in Andover have joined 18 other secondary schools in signing up to Hampshire County Council’s new enterprise education programme.
As part of the scheme, pupils will receive enterprise master classes with local business people to inspire and educate them on how to develop business ideas and create start-up companies.
Students will also learn skills useful to budding entreprenuers such as:
- Identifying business opportunities
- Creative thinking and problem solving
- Communication and presentation skills
- Teamwork and leadership
- Negotiation and decision making
- Managing risk
- Responding to change
Called ‘Innovating for the Future’, the programme was created and is being delivered in partnership with a consortium consisting of the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Education Business Partnership (programme lead), Basingstoke Consortium, First Partnership and Solent Education Business Partnership.
Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, Councillor Seán Woodward said: “Driving up rates of entrepreneurship in the County will really help stimulate Hampshire’s economy and what better way than inspiring our next generation.”
“With schools no longer required to provide work related learning the programme will help increase the awareness of self-employment as a real option for young people when they are facing an ever increasing competitive job market.”
