Thus year has been tough. It’s been really tough for our high street.
Although we know its high streets up and down the country that have all felt the impact of COVID, Andover’s Business Improvement District (BID) have always been on hand to provide businesses with help during these times.
From assisting with grants, shop signage and making the high street and making our shops Covid-secure, Steve Godwin has led the way and been supporting businesses through these hard times.
Steve Godwin is the BID Manager and he has been the driving force behind the entity that is funded by high street businesses to support high street businesses. Steve has been backed up by the impressive Andy Hunt who who is the business support coordinator.
The BID supports the BID levy payers, their support includes promoting the high street and some of the local businesses around Bridge Street, Newbury Street, Winchester Street and beyond.
Recently, the BID invested in a drive to support local businesses to increase footfall for the town and promote the town. They have been espeically active ahead of this difficult pre-Christmas trading season.
They have employed Luis Wyatt (‘Male Presenter of the Year’ at the annual community radio awards for his work on Andover Radio recently) as a host to work with levy payers to support their business. ALSO (Andover Local Shopping Online) was created to do just this, to promote the local businesses and the products and services they offer. These are videos that sees Luis talk to a variety of local businesses, about their business and the products and services they offer.
It started back in lockdown where via some clever video technology work, Luis was able to talk to Bev from the Travelling Cupcake, Amy from David Mellor Family Jewellers, Agnes from Indiglow and Kelly from Canto Gelato. After lockdown, Luis was able to physically do these videos and spoke with Mooch and C&M DIY as well as catching up with the traders from the Christmas Market that was inside the Chantry Centre.
Through Facebook advertising and Luis sharing in the many… many groups on Facebook, the videos have reached many thousands.
Luis said, “The ALSO (Andover Local Shopping Online) videos aim to support local independent business by focusing on the products which they sell. These days people want quick and quality online content which I hope In Andover and the Andover BID are providing. I can’t believe that some of the videos are reaching tens of thousands of viewers.”
