John Hanson governor Mr John Cooper has been awarded the ‘Don Allen Award’ after being recognised for outstanding service by Hampshire County Council.

A total of 12 governors have received the award and seven attended a special reception at the County Council, hosted by the Executive Member for Education, Councillor Peter Edgar, where he thanked them for their dedication to supporting schools.

Councillor Edgar commented: “I am delighted to have met this year’s award winners and thank them personally for the contribution they make to the quality of children’s education. People often forget that behind the scenes there is a governing body both supporting and challenging a school.

Governors play a vital role and dedicate much of their free time willingly without remuneration. Ofsted reports continue to show that Hampshire’s schools are among the best in the country and that is thanks, not only to the commitment and hard work of our school staff but also to the unique contribution made by governors.

He added: “We are always keen to encourage more people to become governors at their local schools. It is rewarding and a unique way of using personal experiences and skills for the benefit of the wider community.
