Southern Water are investigating concerns about stagnant water in the River Anton near to the River Way Tesco after it was highlighted on the Pilgrims Way website.
Concerns were raised on the website on 15th August when both Tesco and Test Valley Borough Council stated the area was not their land. A local resident then pointed out that there was a statement about the River Anton on the Hampshire County Council and TVBC website:
“Test Valley Borough Council, Environment Agency, Hampshire County Council and Hampshire and IOW Wildlife Trust have formed a partnership to improve the river corridor for wildlife and people.”
On 18th October the position had appeared to reach a stalemate after Peter Mather reported no agency was accepting responsibility.
“Southern Water say it is the responsibility of the Environmental Agency, they say it is down to the Council and so we go back and forward.”
After posting on Twitter earlier today, Andover Town was contacted by Southern Water who are now looking into the issue.
This again highlights the need for residents to be made aware of who is in control of various areas after the Environment Agency finally admitted responsibility for the culvert area that flooded the area between Andover College and Andover Magistrates Court earlier this year.
