An Andover woman is improving her life and making sure she’s at her best on her wedding day by joining a special food education programme that changes the way people think about food.

Sarah Mann, who’s 42, has decided to change her lifestyle by trying a new class at Andover Leisure Centre to manage her weight, be healthier and make better food choices.

Sarah said: “Previously I’ve only tried losing weight on my own. I don’t use diets as I believe they don’t really work. But I’ve not always been as successful as I’d like.

It seems like as soon as you stop a diet the weight goes back on and I wanted something to work in the long term,” she said.

Sarah was motivated to change after seeing a photo of herself and did not like what she saw.

To help change how she felt and gain more confidence before her wedding early next year, Sarah has joined the new Target weight management group at Andover Leisure Centre.

Target helps people take more control over their weight by helping them understand more about food, nutrition and exercise.

It teaches the impact different foods have on the body and equips people to make better, more informed decisions.

Course leader Nic Watt said: “Target teaches our members about making choices for themselves through food education. It gives people the freedom of choice without all the marketing confusion.

Our members are losing weight naturally without feeling like they’re dieting, and some are already reporting improvements to long term health complaints.

The programme can help with conditions like IBS and depression too.

Sarah will go to Target for four weeks, and is aiming to lose a consistent pound a week as she re-educates herself on food.

So far I’ve found Target really easy to work into my lifestyle, and now I find food more tasty and fun. I really needed a push with foods that help to lose weight, and I’ve found that guidance at Target,” she said.

The Target weight management course runs every Tuesday at 7pm at Andover Leisure Centre. It costs £4.50 a session.
