Film Director from Andover wins an EMMY Award

Simon George, from Andover, has scooped an award for “Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction” at the 34th Annual News and Documentary EMMY Awards.  

Simon, who grew up in Andover and attended both Winton School and Cricklade College, before going to Kingston University, received the gong in recognition of his work on the documentary programme ‘WWII From Space’ for The History Channel.

The two-hour programme details the story of world war two from the vantage point of space, using a variety of visual effects and computer generated imagery to give viewers a fresh interpretation of the conflict.

Simon has already won several other awards during his career as a director / producer / editor for both television and film and has made many large-scale drama and documentary projects for some of the biggest broadcasters in the world including Channel 4, Channel 5, MTV and Discovery, not to mention over 100 music videos and numerous commercials.

Most recently, Simon has been working on a documentary feature for National Geographic entitled “Hudson: Inside Flight 1549” recounting the series of events leading up to the American Airways plane crash-landing in the Hudson.

The film was shot at Black Hangar Studios,
 Lasham Airfield, Alton and a number of Andover residents from the Andover Musical Theatre Company were used as extras in the film after Simon contacted his old school friend, Chairman Carol Robinson, looking for talent!
