Head of Winton Community Academy, Chris McShane, has resigned in a letter to students and parents following the results of last summer’s examinations.

Mr McShane – who had been headteacher for six years – said that despite them being the best results the school had ever achieved they fell short of the Government floor target.

He had therefore offered his resignation which Academies and Enterprise Trust have accepted and would not be returning after half term.

One parent said “Mr McShane is a fantastic head teacher who took a school that was on its knees and turned it around to one of the best schools in the area. Our son is doing so well at Winton and this is a direct result of Mr McShane’s leadership and qualities. I think he should be reinstated as soon as possible.

Parents wishing to contact the academy with their views have been asked to contact as follows:

  • The Government should leave the school system alone and stick to what they know!…Taking from the tax payer, receiving hefty claims expenses, while making other’s feel worthless! The Government make me sick! Let head teacher’s (teacher’s) be teacher’s, it’s what they have worked damn hard to do!

  • How sad to read this, the government has a lot to answer to especially their continued and unwanted interference in schools , teacher knows best..He has turned the school around completely well I sincerely hope and pray that the pupils and parents get behind him and encourage him to stay and continue his good works..

  • the ones that set the standards are the ones that got into their positions using the old standards,. the school will be at a great loss without him as head

  • Mr McShane is one of the main reasons we chose to send our son to Winton School. It’s extremely disappointing to hear that his resignation was accepted. I really hope this decision can be reversed.

  • This news has come as such a shock as Mr McShane was agreat head teacher and my son has flourished since moving to Winton two years ago. How ridiculous that a head teacher should have to resign after achieving the best results ever!!
