Head of Winton Community Academy, Chris McShane, has resigned in a letter to students and parents following the results of last summer’s examinations.

Mr McShane – who had been headteacher for six years – said that despite them being the best results the school had ever achieved they fell short of the Government floor target.

He had therefore offered his resignation which Academies and Enterprise Trust have accepted and would not be returning after half term.

One parent said “Mr McShane is a fantastic head teacher who took a school that was on its knees and turned it around to one of the best schools in the area. Our son is doing so well at Winton and this is a direct result of Mr McShane’s leadership and qualities. I think he should be reinstated as soon as possible.
